HOW DOES THERAPY WORK?
Therapy is a series of conversations between you and your therapist to help you uncover patterns of thinking and behaviour so you can replace them with tools that benefit you. You will set your treatment goal in your first sessions and from there you will learn strategies to achieve behaviour change. The therapist provides honest, non-judgemental feedback and guidance on how you can work towards your best life.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I normal?
You are not alone. This is the most frequently asked question. “Normal” will depend on what the desired or preferred outcome is. Normalcy is what can be achieved in relation to who you are and what your goals for treatment are. If what you are asking for from therapy is not realistically achievable the therapist will let you know.
Will I be Cured?
In therapy we rarely speak about being “cured” instead we speak about hanging the issues that bring us to therapy in the first place. We learn coping skills and new ways of achieving our desired goal.
what if it doesn’t work?
A good therapist should let you know if the approaches being employed are working well or if you may need to try some other form of therapy/treatment. If your therapy isn’t working you also should feel free to advise your therapist and to change providers if necessary.
How Long Will Therapy Take?
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is intended to be short term, effective behaviour change which provides you with strategies and techniques you can use in your everyday life. Sessions are usually six sessions at a time for the complete protocol. You will have breaks for two weeks between each protocol. The breaks between therapy sessions allow you to discover which techniques are working for you every day and which ones need further work.
What about my partner/family?
Your partner or family member/s may be included in the therapy at some point or for the entire duration of the protocol. This will depend on the specific situation. Partners and family members are also free to say no to joining in your therapy. This is an individual decision.
what happens after therapy?
FAfter therapy you move on to live your life in ways that are usually more enriching and satisfying. From time to time if therapy has been effective you may return to tackle some new issues. This is perfectly fine.

A therapist is bound by the ethical rules of their training and profession to keep each client’s information strictly confidential. This includes not disclosing information you share with your therapist to your partner or family. This rule may only be altered if you or an individual you mention is in danger of harm.
